Shrapnel Maps: Voices in Dialogue

March 21 @ 5:00 pm 8:00 pm

You’re invited to a theatrical adaptation and staged public reading of Shrapnel Maps, a play written by Philip Metres and Eric Schmiedl that explores the predicament of the conflict between Palestine and Israel from a Cleveland point of view.

Set in 2021, an Arab American poet and peacemaker is asked to speak at a rally in Cleveland for the people of Gaza. Will he? Sponsored by Cuyahoga Arts and Culture, Ohio Humanities Council, the Department of English, and the Peace, Justice, and Human Rights Program. Contact Dr. Philip Metres at pmetres@jcu.edu or 216-556-1101.

The play will conclude with guided conversation about the play and its implications for how we deal with polarizing conflict, exploring what it means to be human in times of conflict, and seeking ways of resolving conflict in ways that affirm our shared humanity.

Your voices will help us continue to revise and develop this work!

This event was supported in part by an Ohio Humanities Spark Grant.
