The Last Truck: Closing of a GM Plant

February 22 @ 6:30 pm 9:00 pm

Join the Contemporary Theater of Ohio at Studio 35 for the screening of a deeply moving documentary, The Last Truck: Closing of a GM Plant, by Julia Reichert and Steven Bognar.

This Academy Award-nominated film provides a firsthand look at the relationships and emotions surrounding the closure of a GM factory in Moraine, Ohio. The film sets the stage for a broader conversation about community, resilience, and the dignity of work.  Immediately after the film, co-director, Academy Award winning filmmaker and humanities scholar, Steven Bognar, will participate in a discussion with Leda Hoffmann, The Contemporary’s Artistic Director, and other guests about the themes raised in the film and play. The film and discussion are free to attend.

Then, be sure to check out The Contemporary’s powerful upcoming play, Skeleton Crew by Dominique Morisseau, directed by Raymond O. Caldwell. Set against the backdrop of the 2008 recession in Detroit, this compelling play explores the lives of auto plant workers grappling with impending unemployment, weaving a rich tapestry of friendship, loyalty, and survival. The play runs February 29 – March 17, 2024, at the Riffe Center Studio Two Theatre, 77 S. High Street in downtown Columbus. Click here for ticket information for Skeleton Crew.
