Ohio Humanities is sponsoring the keynote address by Chief Glenna Wallace of the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma and a follow-up discussion session at the Ohio Local History Alliance Annual Meeting and Conference. Among other presentations, Chief Wallace’s talk will be complemented by a late afternoon plenary delivered remotely by Colin Calloway, Professor of History at Dartmouth University. With this year’s conference, OLHA continuing an effort to highlight and encourage Ohio’s historical societies learn and present more about under-represented histories in Ohio, including American Indian and African American experiences. This year, OLHA is planning to encourage folks to think about the lands we now call Ohio, and to recognize the people who were in Ohio before the “first settlers” came to the state.
