Byron Hurt is an award-winning documentary filmmaker. His acclaimed documentary film, Soul Food Junkies, chronicled the history and legacy of soul food for PBS. A former Northeastern University football player, Byron is a published writer, anti-sexism activist, and lecturer. He is also the former host of the Emmy-nominated television show, Reel Works with Byron Hurt. Since 1993, he has been using his craft, his voice, and his writings to broaden and deepen how people think about gender, race, sex, violence, music, and visual media. Because of his work, Hurt has lectured at hundreds of campuses, presented at numerous professional conferences, and trained thousands of young men and women on cutting-edge issues.
