Portage Path Community Archaeology Project Opening Reception

October 7, 2022 @ 5:00 pm 7:00 pm

Do you enjoy art, archaeology, or Akron history?  If so, then don’t miss the Portage Path Community Archaeology Project exhibition, which will be on display at Summit ArtSpace (located at 140 E. Market Street) from October 7 through December 17, 2022. This exhibition is free and open whenever Summit ArtSpace is open.

The exhibition will focus on the history of the Portage Path, which is now considered as a symbol of Akron identity. The exhibition will feature archaeological artifacts, interpretive maps, text panels, and artwork prepared by local artists that illustrates this colorful history.

A special opening night will be held on Friday, October 7, 2022, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, including a guest lecture by Dr. Kevin Kern, who is a professor of history at the University of Akron. The lecture he is giving is titled “Indians in Northeast Ohio Memory.”

The Portage Path Community Archaeology Project exhibition is part of an educational series organized by Stewards of Historical Preservation (SHiP).  It has been funded in part by a special grant from the Ohio Humanities Council.

Please be sure to visit Summit ArtSpace between October 7 and December 17 to see this exciting piece of Akron’s history!
